Kamikaze Modelismo (2019)

'Kamikaze Modelismo', is a piece based on instrumental hacks on an electric guitar made by artifacts collected and modified during some years at electronic shops in the neighborhood of Santa Ifigênia, localized in the heart of São Paulo. My approach toward these modifications is guided by the idea that opening technological goods and looking inside seems to be one way of understanding the functioning of their mechanisms and what their internal mode of operation could mean beyond the object itself. Understanding the functioning of the device is one way of thinking about its manufacturing process, circulation and how its structure relates to the society and period to which the object belongs. This experience leads to different perspectives on the instrument and forms of playing.

André Damião (São Paulo, 1987) is a Ph.D. student in Sonology at the University of São Paulo (USP). He is an artist and researcher who works transversally between the fields of music and electronic art. He graduated in Composition at the State University of São Paulo (UNESP) and has presented his works in galleries and concert halls in 18 countries.
