about

Èsù (2018)

'Èsù' is a sound sculpture related to the attributes and characteristics of the Yoruba Orisha ÈSÙ. In a wooden Ogó, a phallic symbol that represents the creative power and fertility of the Orisha, I stretched a metal string, having as its easel a large iron ring. This Ogó is fixed on a satellite dish and placed in an iron ring alongside many calabashes with seeds inside. It is related to an idea of the Igbás, whose ritual function is to receive as offerings (the sound in this case) - for circulation, transformation and replacement of the Axé, a vital force. It connects the physical space - Ayê and the spiritual space - Orun.

Marco Scarassatti (Campinas, 1971) is a sound artist, improviser and composer, develops research and construction of sound sculptures and sound installations. Lecturer at the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG and author of the book 'Walter Smetak, o alquimista dos sons', Perspectiva / SESC, published in 2008. Albums Released: 'Novelo Elétrico' (2014), 'Rios Enclausurados' (2015), 'RUMOR'
(2015), 'Amoa hi' (2016), 'Casa Acústica, fragmentos de um improviso-diário' (2017), 'Novelo Elétrico 6' (2017), 'Hackearragacocho' (2018), 'Psychogeography, an improvisational derive', (2019), 'Construtores de Sons' (2019), 'Aglomerados dos Seres Verticais' (2019), 'Cuatro Crónicas acerca de la ciudad y la ancestralidade' (2019), 'Sound Chronicles from Cabo Verde' (2019).
