Conversations (2019)

'Conversations' (recording excerpt) is the diffusion, through a megaphone, of excerpts of confusing conversations - focused on the themes of language, being a foreigner, memory and the oneiric - in some of the several languages practiced in the city of Brussels. These recordings were diffused at specific points throughout the city, interacting with their spatial properties through sound. This intervention was connected to the project “Language learning as field recording, body as media”, an attempt at recording aspects of the city of Brussels in my body respecting a set of 'simple' rules: avoid the use of English during six weeks while trying to communicate in local languages only.

Paulo Dantas (Rio de Janeiro, 1981) is a musician/sound artist, teacher and sound technician. In the past ten years, he's been teaching Musical Analysis / Experimental Music at UNIRIO (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro's State), with emphasis on field recordings, indeterminacy, composition and analysis of concert music repertoire. His research interests led him to closer engagements with artists of the current Brazilian experimental music scenes, collaborating with technical work such as audio ​recording​ and ​mastering, as well as organizing concerts, publishing articles​, ​playlists and record ​compilations. His recent artistic work is connected to improvisation and composition with recording devices, synthesizers and other objects.​
