Gravação - 38 dias (2016)

The track is an audio excerpt of an installation created by me called 'Gravação - 38 dias' (Recording - 38 days) that was exhibited in 2016 at the Casamata gallery in Rio de Janeiro. The installation consisted of a system whereby the ambient sound of the exhibition space was recorded, stored and then reproduced on the next day at the same time when it was originally captured. Functioning cumulatively, on each day it was possible to hear the overlaid sound of previous recordings. This excerpt comes from the recording presented on the last day of the exhibition (the 38th).

Gustavo Torres (Rio de Janeiro, 1987) is an artist whose production spans films, videos, installations, sound pieces, conceptual pieces, performances and objects. There is a line that crosses his production, originating from the question of the tautology of equipment and the media that he employs, towards the idea of impossibility, incapacity, impotency, exploring the ability to fall and calling attention to vacated spaces. Inhabiting the extremes, his works frequently present the emptiness or saturation. For some time now he’s been interested in the idea of experience and how aesthetic experience relates to the art institution.
